Tara – Buddhist Goddess
Inspired by my visit to the Zhulin Mountain Buddhist Temple, Taiwan.
Tara is (Sanskrit) Star and is also known as ‘She Who Brings Forth Life’, ‘The Great Compassionate Mother’, ‘The Embodiment of Wisdom’ and the Great Protectress.
In Buddhist tradition, Tara is an enlightened one has attained the highest wisdom, capability and compassion and one who can take human form and remains in oneness with the every living thing.
Tara was born out of the tears of compassion of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara. It is said that he wept as he looked upon the world of suffering beings, and his tears formed a lake from which a lotus grew. When the lotus opened, the goddess was revealed.
