Still Life
It is very rare to find a definitive description for almost any art category, there will always be blurring lines and opinions. My interpretation of Still Life as applied to my portfolio refers to a composition of mostly inanimate objects predominantly lit by a single light source be it natural window light or studio flash. Other of course may chose their own definitions as they wish.
My philosophy relies entirely on composition whether applied to “Golden Age” or contemporary scenes and subjects. I avoid using photographic specific elements such as depth of field etc. and prefer fading a scene into shadow and mystery but retaining focus and/or outline befitting a single light source. Every item in my images has a purpose, meaning or connection with the composition as a whole.
