The Cat and I

Cat skeleton on skull
An extraordinary display of a cat skeleton mounted on a human skull. This most unusual item was found tucked away in a dark corner in a general pile at a London shop.

At the time it was in a battered ill fitting glass case which which it was not designed for.  I began to dig at the pile and was more in disbelief about it than I was when I first noticed it. With low light and a reflective glass case photographing was not an easy task .

After a brief discussion with the owner it was released from the case and placed in a suitably dark area where I could also use some lighting.

The origin of the “Cat and I” is unknown, the owner of the shop had little knowledge other than it was bought in a ‘job lot’. Since receiving the job lot it had just been stashed in a corner for later sorting. There were no markings or attributes to provide any information but it was believed to French late 1800’s early 1900’s. I am so glad I caught this although not quite pleased when I was quoted the price to buy.
